What is included in a Cariad Blanket Box?

All boxes are unique, much like the women receiving them, and no two boxes will be the same. As a standard each box will include a hand made blanket for the recipients baby, and an encouraging postcard from a mum who knows what it is like to go through a similar tough situation, and has come out the other side of it. From time to time a box may include other hand made items that have been donated to the project by other women who want to support the project, but are creative in a different way to crochet or knitting.

Why blankets and not something else?

There are several reasons why blankets, as opposed to another crafted item. One of the main reasons is that the hope is that a blanket can provide a big hug to both baby and mother, physically and metaphorically. You can read more about the reasons for chosing a blanket here.

How long will it take for the person I’ve nominated to receive their blanket?

The aim is that a Cariad Blanket Box is sent no later than 8 weeks after the nomination is received.

Can I only nominate pregnant mums/new mums?

At the moment you can only nominate those who are waiting to hold their babe in their arms, or have had a baby in the last two years. The hope is that in the future the project will be expanded to reach and bless more women and their families.

The person I wish to nominate lives outside of the UK, are you able to send a blanket to them?

At the moment boxes can only be sent to those living within the UK.

Why should I nominate someone to receive a Cariad Blanket Box?

Because it will provide them with a little reminder of love and support. Don’t take my word for it, read what others have to say about their experience nominating and receiving a box on the testimonial page.

Are you able to cover the cost of the yarn to create a blanket, or the postage cost?

At the moment as the project is just starting out it doesn’t have the funds to be able to cover blanket creating or sending costs for everyone. If you would like to be involved but cost of yarn is going to be an issue, please get in contact as we want the project to be open to everyone.

I am only able commit to make one or two blanket squares, are you able to accept these?

Currently individual blanket squares are not accepted.

Do you accept donations of items other than blankets?

Yes! We can accept any brand new, non food items that are intended as gifts for mums. For babies we can accept handmade clothing if made with baby yarn. We currently cannot accept any baby hats. We can only accept baby toys if they are brand new and toy safe certified.

I want to donate, but can’t make anything!

You can donate brand new items still in their packaging to the project to be included in a box, it just needs to fit the brief that it will bless the mum receiving a box. Further information about what we can and can’t accept can be read in the question above. Alternatively you can donate money to the project via PayPal donations.
